Regarding the book, “Revisions to Jihad in Egypt and the World” December 11, 2007
Posted by revolution in : Books, Egypt, JihÄd, Knowledge , trackbackFor those of you who don’t know, there’s a book coming out from an ex-Jihaadee [not saying that he's insincere, but just stating that he's not on the battlefield because of imprisonment], Sayyed Imam al-Sherif (aka Dr. Fadl). The problem with this book is that it was written in the Egyptian jail cell (which is famous for torture) and is focused on being anti-Jihaadee, which is something that the Egyptian Security Intelligence would love since they would get a big pat on the back from America and the UN. This Scholar used to be a very close associate of Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri. More can be read about this here.
The fact that this book was written during imprisonment immediately destroys the authenticity of the work since it is known that the Murtadeen security intelligence, especially in Egypt, forcibly tell the imprisoned Islaamic Scholars to write books/articles against the Mujaahideen. It’s not a new phenomenon. So that’s the end of the story. This book holds no weight since there’s a 99% chance that this Scholar was forced to either write it or sign it. It is well-known that the Egyptian Security Intelligence are full of hatred for this Deen and that they torture Muslims and Muslim Scholars regularly.
There was a hot rumor spreading around some time ago regarding this book so Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri came out with a statement in one of his videos, rightfully saying,
“Do they now have fax machines in Egyptian jail cells? I wonder if they’re connected to the same line as the electric-shock machines.”
How true yet sad.
The Kuffaar and Munaafiqeen are obviously very happy about this book. They are going to promote this book heavily. The book hasn’t even come out yet in English and already the Kuffaar are promoting it and are hoping that it will change the Mujaahideen to leave their Jihaad.
Here are some of the things mentioned in the book as reported from the Kuffaar of Jamestown:
Dr. Fadl reiterates that before practicing jihad (as with performing any other religious duty), certain prerequisites have to be met:
- The jihadist must be not only physically capable, but also financially capable. It is impermissible to practice jihad if the jihadi cannot provide for his dependents while performing this duty.
- The parents’ permission must be obtained by minors. God does not accept jihad without parental consent.
- The lives and property of Muslims must be preserved.
- Jihad against the leaders of Muslim countries is not acceptable.
- It is forbidden to harm foreigners and tourists in Muslim countries.
- It is treachery to kill people in a non-Muslim country after entering that country with its government’s permission (i.e., a legal visa).
- Single individuals should not try to conduct jihad by themselves.
- Using fraudulent means to fund jihad is a sin punishable by Islam.Dr. Fadl also retreats from his takfiri ideology, citing the many constraints that should be considered before designating an individual as an infidel.
Now anyone who has a considerable amount of knowledge on the fiqh of Jihaad would know that these opinions can be easily refuted. The 3rd, 6th and last point are general rules and they have their exceptions like the ruling, “Do not kill women and children”. Regarding the Takfeer, we’ll have to see exactly what he retracts since Takfeer is a vast subject.
Assuming that Dr. Fadl did indeed write this consciously from his heart and mind, which we doubt, then he is no match for the evidences that the classical Scholars of Islaam such as Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn Katheer, Ibn an-Nuhaas, An-Nawawi, and so on, bring forth to the table. In any case, the evidences of the Mujaahideen depend on the Sahih interpretations and the stronger dalaa’il from the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, sallallahu ‘alayhi wassallam.
It’ll be interesting to see the response of the Mujaahideen and how seriously they will take it. Perhaps they’ll write a refutation of the entire book or give a recorded statement or simply just act as the aayah says, “And never fearing the blame of the blamers.” (5:44)
