Revealed: Britain’s secret propaganda war machine against the Mujaahideen - the BBC August 29, 2008

This is some fascinating news coming out of the Guardian. Although we are not entirely surprised by this news, it does however confirm our belief that the UK Government in general and the BBC in specific, deliberately lie in order to taint the image of the vanguard of Islaam. They seek to destroy the hope of Islaam’s rise to power by cowardly attacking the efforts of the Mujaahideen. Many times, we have seen those lies exposed whenever they tried announcing the death or capture or “fake identity” of Shaykh Abu ‘Umar al-Baghdadi - may Allah protect him. This goes to show just how desperate the enemies of Allah are.

Revealed: Britain’s secret propaganda war against al-Qaida
BBC and website forums targeted by Home Office unit

A Whitehall counter-terrorism unit is targeting the BBC and other media organisations as part of a new global propaganda push designed to “taint the al-Qaida brand”, according to a secret Home Office paper seen by the Guardian.

The document also shows that Whitehall counter-terrorism experts intend to exploit new media websites and outlets with a proposal to “channel messages through volunteers in internet forums” as part of their campaign.

Through my experience in the many Islaamic forums, it’s not hard to believe in this; in fact, these Munaafiqeen and Kuffaar are active on the Islaamic forums as we speak.

So a word of warning to all those brothers and sisters on the Islaamic forums:

By attacking the Mujaahideen in general, and Tandheem al-Qaa’idah in particular, you are helping the efforts of the Government that is fighting Islaam with all of their might and power whether you like it or not. Naturally, if we do see something wrong, our obligation as Muslims is to correct these things. But there is always a time and place to do it and there’s always a method on how to do it. Some brothers, for some reason, feel the need to have their voices heard loud and clear when talking against the Mujaahideen as opposed to privately discussing the matter; they don’t realize that it’s helping Allah’s enemies and it’s decreasing the love, spirit and support of the Global Jihaad. Sure, the Mujaahideen are not perfect and they never claimed to be. Sure, they have mistakes and they have admitted it like sincere and humble human beings. But to go all out against our brothers that are fighting to uplift the word of Allah against the word of Democracy and Kufr, then this is similar to showing Bara’ah to the Mujaahideen. After Allah, and His Messenger, who do we have? The Governments? Their Armies? The Politicians? The Imaam’s who are too scared to speak the truth?!

Shaykh Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi, may Allah have mercy on him, said after Allah and His Messenger, you only have the Mujaahideen. So give them the respect they deserve as Allah has given them by preferring them over everyone else.

Attacking the Mujaahideen at a time when they are not doing so well is extremely unapprioriate; it helps the tide of Democracy and disbelief against Islaam and Imaan. Unfortuantely, the fools at MuslimMatters.org don’t understand that since they live in an imaginary bubble. May Allah save us and the Ummah from their likes and their Scholars.

If you do have a criticism against the Mujaahideen, then we ask you - and they ask you - to deliver the criticism in the appropriate place and time. When a Father has lost his job, and his family is starving, and the Government is starting to take away his property due to a lack of paying taxes - and the Father is striving and struggling to get a job and he’s crying night after night to Allah - the last thing he needs to hear is for an “armchair general” or a “smart guy” to tell him that he’s doing a lousy job. And he certainly doesn’t need this fool to blabber about it to everyone on some online forum where thousands upon thousands of other people will read it. So fear Allah my brothers and sisters, and be sensitive regarding these issues.

If you cannot deliver the criticism to the appropriate time and place, then fear Allah in your ownselves and stay quiet, if their is a seed of Imaan in your heart that believes in Allah and the Last Day. Don’t start these long-winded debates on the forums where you end up just insulting each other; what benefit is there in such things when those whom you are talking about (or attacking) are not even reading your words so that they can re-consider?

The strategy is being conducted by the research, information and communication unit, [RICU] which was set up last year by the then home secretary, John Reid, to counter al-Qaida propaganda at home and overseas. It is staffed by officials from several government departments.

The report, headed, Challenging violent extremist ideology through communications, says: “We are pushing this material to UK media channels, eg, a BBC radio programme exposing tensions between AQ leadership and supporters. And a restricted working group will communicate niche messages through media and non-media.”

The disclosure that a Whitehall counter-terrorism propaganda operation is promoting material to the BBC and other media will raise fresh concerns about official news management in a highly sensitive area.

The government campaign is based upon the premise that al-Qaida is waning worldwide and can appear vulnerable on issues such as declining popularity; its rejection by credible figures, especially religious ones, and details of atrocities.

The Whitehall propaganda unit is collecting material to target these vulnerabilities under three themes. They are that al-Qaida is losing support; “they are not heroes and don’t have answers; and that they harm you, your country and your livelihood”.

This is sneaky propaganda from the accursed Shaytaan. Shaytaan will let you live a good life just as the Government will let you live a good life. But to them, the “good life” is everything materialistic and has nothing to do with Imaan and Yaqeen. Anyone who has Imaan and Yaqeen would prefer a life of zuhd over a life of flashy materialism. Anyone who has Imaan and Yaqeen would prefer to fight under the Mujaahideen than to fight under the Kuffaar.

The Mujaahideen do have answers of course, and they don’t intend to harm everyone as the Government and BBC wants you to believe.

The RICU guidance, dated July 21 2008, says that the material is primarily aimed at “overseas communicators” in embassies and consulates around the world, confirming the global scale of the Whitehall counter-terrorist propaganda effort now underway.

But it also says that other partners should be encouraged to integrate this work into their communications at home as well: “It is aimed primarily (but not exclusively) at those working with overseas influencers and opinion formers.”

The first dossier of material being despatched to diplomatic posts worldwide cites condemnation of al-Qaida from Sayyid Imam al-Sharif aka Dr Fadi, a former leader of Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and Salman Abu-Awdah, a leading Saudi scholar who has published an open letter to Osama bin Laden calling al-Qaida’s aims illegitimate and immoral. It notes that groups like Hamas and Hezbollah are now keen to distance themselves from al-Qaida.

One of the evil plans of the Kuffaar is to totally discredit the opinions and words of the Mujaahideen. For instance, Sayyid Imaam al-Shareef made his condemnation (the recent one which they are referring to) in the Egyptian Jail; he supposedly faxed his condemnation paper from prison. Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri replied to this incident, “is the fax machine connected to the same line as the electrical chair?” And it may sound funny but the Egyptian Government is known for extreme torture. It is an extremely important point that is made but it is a point which the Kuffaar discredit in order to further push their agenda that the Mujaahideen are “losing support.”

As for Shaykh Salman’s letter to Shaykh Usaamah, then that was not wise on his behalf. If he was forced by the Government, then it’s not surprising. You can read the refutation of that letter here.

In a section headed “AQ has suffered military defeat in …” it adds “use advisedly - avoid suggesting that AQ is no longer a threat. We are not claiming victory over AQ. We are stressing their declining support”.

In other words, they don’t want to lie too much so that their backs are exposed; but Alhamdullilaah, they have been exposed.

The dossier says that al-Qaida has been definitively expelled from large areas of Iraq and has lost ground in Afghanistan. It quotes CIA director Michael Hayden’s claim in May that al-Qaida had been essentially defeated in Iraq and Saudi Arabia and was now “on the defensive throughout much of the rest of the world,” but describes this as a “strikingly upbeat assessment of the organisation”.

It highlights the fact that Mohammed Hamid, who was convicted in February for recruiting and radicalising young men to fight against the west, was a former crack addict.

And ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab - may Allah be pleased with him - was a former heavy alcoholic drinker. Then he later became one of the greatest Caliphs of Islaam. Thus, the Kuffaar try to rush to every mistake and sin of the individual in order to discredit that person and making his mistakes and sins appear as his methodology. They even tried to discredit the status of Shaykh Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi by stating that he was an alcoholic and had a tatoo! It’s as if these Kuffaar have no concept of Muslims having the ability to repent from their past misdeeds! And the so-called Salafi’s are a perfect example of this ludicrious behavior adopted from the Kuffaar. Allahul Musta’aan.

So the Kuffaar take 9/11 and they think the Mujaahideen will do this all the time and that they don’t follow any rules of the Jihaad and that they will freely slaughter women and children, when this is clearly not the case when al-Qaa’idah has already stated but the media purposely hides it from the public. Regarding this, Shaykh Usaamah said in the Tayseer ‘Alouni interview of 2001,

But I mention that there are also other events that took place, bigger, greater and more dangerous than the collapse of the towers. It is that this Western civilization, which is backed by America, has lots its values and appeal [qiyamuhaa]. The immense materialistic towers were destroyed, which preach Freedom, and Human Rights, and Equality. It became a total mockery [hadhaa'an manthuura] and that clearly appeared when the US government interfered and banned the media outlets from airing our words which don’t exceed a few minutes, because they felt that the truth started to appear to the American people, and that we truly aren’t terrorists by the definition they want, but because we are being violated in Palestine, in Iraq, in Lebanon, in Sudan, in Somalia, in Kashmir, in the Philippines and in every place, and that this is a reaction from the young men of this nation [ummah] against the violations by the British Government.

The article goes on,

The document also notes that al-Qaida has to “feed its new franchises with propaganda to keep the ‘brand’ alive at all costs”. It says that it is focused on Palestine - to the discomfort of the Palestinians - because it has failed in Iraq and is now pronouncing on issues as diverse as Egyptian trade unions and climate change in a desperate attempt to remain relevant.

What the Kuffaar hide from you and me is that al-Qaa’idah has been focusing on Palestine ever since its creation; just look at Shaykh Usaamah’s Declaration of War in 1998 or his interview with Tayseer ‘Alouni in 2001. Even Tayseer ‘Alouni asked him,

But Shaykh, from what I see from your answers, you say that always about Palestine and about the Palestinian issue. So let me ask you the question, your latest statements, or precisely a statement that appeared a few years ago that preached killing Jews and Crusaders, and we remember that the title had between quotes a famous hadeeth, “Expel the mushrikeen (polytheists) from the Arabian peninsula”[narrated by al-Bukhaari (2932) and Muslim (3089)], you concentrated on the expulsion of the Americans from the Arabian peninsula. So in your latest speeches we see a decrease in that. You have put forth the Palestinian issue, or like you call it the Aqsa issue, to the forefront, and you moved the issue of the Haramain to a secondary spot so to speak. So what is your opinion or argument on this matter?

And Shaykh Usaamah replied,

I say that with no doubt jihaad is mandatory on all Muslims [fard `ayn] to free the Aqsa, or to save the weak in Palestine and in Lebanon and in Iraq and in all Islamic lands, and there is no doubt that freeing the Arabian peninsula from the polytheists [mushrikeen] is also mandatory on all Muslims [fard `ayn].

And concerning the talk that Usamah has put the Palestinian issue to the forefront, that is not true. “Al-`Abd al-Faqir” has a speech from the year 1407H (1986AD) that incites Muslims to boycott American products, and I used to say that the Americans take our money and give it to the Jews so they can kill our children with it in Palestine. That is mandatory on all Muslims [fard `ayn] and this is mandatory on all Muslims [fard `ayn], and there are a lot of mandatory things [furood a`yaan] in jihaad, like Kashmir amongst others, and from the battle front that was created a few years ago, the title of which was called: “The Islamic Front of Jihaad Against the Jews and Crusaders” [al-Jabha al-Islaamiyya lil-Jihaad Dudda al-Yahood wal-Saliibiyeen].

So our mention of those two issues or two topics, is of utmost importance. So some of the events of recent times might push one issue over the other, so we move towards that direction, without ignoring the other.

Palestine has always been the major focus of al-Qaa’idah; it’s just that when certain events occur or overlap, they bring up the Palestinian issue in order to refresh the minds of the Muslims of their obligation.

The “material” is a mixture of recent news reports and articles from Arabic, Middle Eastern and North African news sources illustrating the theme of “AQ is in decline” as well as articles from the New York Times, the Observer, Newsweek and British and American websites.

The RICU guidance note says the dossier has been drafted with support from Whitehall press officers “on how best to tailor such material for media engagements, presenting information to ministers, or to other stakeholders. It is in a separate, unclassified format to make it the sort of product that a minister or a press officer could use before an interview; or that could be given as a crib sheet for trusted contacts,” says the classified document.

Now here is something which one must consider regarding the failure of this “war on terrorism” from the perspective of the Mujaahideen. One of the most prolific and productive writers on al-Ekhlaas, Asad al-Jihaad 2 (some suggest that he might actually be an al-Qaa’idah commander - Wallahu ‘Alam), had come out with an analysis of some of al-Qaa’idah’s successes; and all the success belongs to Allah alone.

He said that the battle in Tora Bora made it seem as if al-Qaa’idah was on the brink of total destruction. Many thought the same with the Taliban. It appeared that they were cornered and isolated and the bombs were raining on them for long periods of time, killing them one by one. However, he argued, “In only seven years, they [al-Qaa'idah] were able to triumph over the world alliance against them.” And so their organization in Afghanistan opened a franchise in ‘Iraaq, Egypt, North Africa, Pakistan, and now Somalia (and they are in other places as well such as the Caucuses, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Yemen etc.). He also stated that the Palestinian Territories are merely in need of a “spark” for al-Qaa’idah to show its presence there.

And their influence is spreading far and wide across the globe. To say that they are now losing shows the severity of the disbelievers in grasping for breath in this globalized world where the Mujaahideen have a firm grip around their neck. Killing a few of their leaders has proven to do absolutely nothing to their activities since they firmly believe that Jihaad solely depends on Allah alone and not His creation; and no one can extinguish the kindled fire in the heart of the true believer except if Allah wills. So propaganda, lies and deceit doesn’t hurt the vanguard of Islaam.

Clint Van Zandt, a former Counter-Terrorism expert for the FBI between 1970 - 1995, said:

“Al-Qaa’idah is an Army without Uniforms. Al-Qaa’idah is an Army even without a common language. There’s a common philosophy, a common belief system, that may bind the various cell groups of al-Qaa’idah together from all over the world. From a law inforcement perspective, this is probably the biggest challenge that has been faced in the last 200 years.”

Some of the other successes which Asad al-Jihad 2 notes is as follows:

  1. Many United States government officials were forced to leave their posts after their failure to defeat al-Qaa’idah.
  2. American historians have claimed that President Bush has been the worst president in American history.
  3. Al-Qaa’idah weakened the most powerful country on Earth in “the Badr of the [21st] century.”
  4. Al-Qaa’idah brought down the British government after its 7 July 2005 attacks.
  5. Al-Qaa’idah broke the Musharraf government after it attacked Islam.
