Translation of Shaykh Abu Hamza al-Muhajir’s Interview November 10, 2008

The following is an interview with the Shaykh, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, hafidhullah. This was the same interview where the Shaykh mentioned that it was the Islamic State of ‘Iraq that sent out its soldiers to Britain to attack it (i.e., part of the procedure was the attack on the Glasgow International Airport) but it failed due to a mistake by one of the brothers; it would have been interesting to see what exactly their target was and what would have happened if the operation turned out to be successful. This operation however, proves that the Islamic State of ‘Iraq is not imaginary or some “Internet State” (as the Shaykh details). This is a real movement, a real State which not only fights but also gives and works for its citizens, and a real threat to not only their foreign enemies operating inside ‘Iraq, but their homelands as well. He made threats to America, Britain and Australia which will keep everyone guessing as to when the attack will come, if there ever will be another one; this is important because if they succeeded in getting their soldiers into Britain without a problem, they can do the same anywhere else.
In this interview, the Shaykh answers many important questions. Questions which those who hold misconceptions of (regarding the Islamic State) are addressed here. He is asked the following questions:
- Can you summarize the circumstances that led to the declaration of the Islamic State?
- Most people believe that you should have waited until the occupiers departed before agreeing to declare the founding of an Islamic State. What is your response?
- Did you try to contact other resistance groups before declaring the State?
- Did any of the jihadi organizations pledge allegiance to the State after its declaration?
- Did a number of tribal Shaykh’s pledge allegiance to the State?
- Did you force individuals and armed factions to pledge allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq?
- Some people criticize the declaration of a ministerial cabinet by the Islamic State and they deride such things as the formation of a ministry portfolio for agricultural and fishing resources.
- Some claim that you target Sunni civilians, the Shaykh’s of the tribes, the Imams of the mosques, and former officers of the Iraqi Army. What is your response?
- You are accused of encouraging civil war in Iraq, based on a letter from Shaykh Abu Musab – rahimahullah – to Shaykh Usama – hafidhullah – which was published by the Americans in the media. What do you have to say about that?
- They say that holding down fixed territory is a discredited military doctrine. What is your response?
- Is it true that the martyrdom operations have increased without any real military justification?
- Do you encourage women and children to carry out martyrdom operations?
- Some accuse you of being the reason behind the emergence of the Awakening projects. Is there any truth to this?
- Would you accept the repentance of Awakening members?
- You are accused of having a relationship with the Iranian regime and the case of the Iranian Consul who was released during the days of the Tawheed wal Jihad is cited as evidence.
- Do you have military operations outside ‘Iraq, such as in Western countries, for example? Do you have the intention of targeting Western interests?
- How do you evaluate the strength of the Islamic State directly following its declaration?
- Do you have something to say to the Mujahideen outside of ‘Iraq?
Many of these questions and its response have also destroyed a lot of Western media propagation regarding the Islamic State. So it’s pretty important for Muslims to go through this and see what the Shaykh has to say. This is also important to those Muslims who remain confused about the situation in ‘Iraq due to the various Jihadi movements, tribes, and sectarian infighting.
The translation by NEFA is not entirely accurate as it is missing some patches of sentences and quotations from Qur’an. Nevertheless, it is good enough to give an idea of what the Shaykh has to say and his response to many of the issues surrounding the Islamic State of ‘Iraq.
